ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To study the quality grade stand ard of the premature Forsythia suspensa . METHODS A total of 138 batches of premature F. suspensa were collected from the main producing areas of F. suspensa in China. According to 2020 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia ,the contents of impurities ,moisture,ethanol-soluble extract ,volatile oil ,forsythin and forsythoside A in the premature F. suspense were determined ,and the qualified samples were screened. AHP-PCA mixed weighting method was used to give comprehensive weight to the indicators (except for the limit of impurity ). The comprehensive score of the samples was calculated. The suggestions on the quality grade division of premature F. suspensa were put forward according to cluster analysis of K-mean value. RESULTS & CONCLUSIONS The contents of impurities ,moisture,ethanol-soluble extract ,volatile oil ,forsythin and forsythoside A in the premature F. suspense were 0-7.80%,1.60%-8.18%,13.13%-61.60%,0.21%-3.47%,0.02%-2.15% and 0.79%-14.04%,respectively;average contents of them were 1.24%,4.97%,34.88%,2.01%,0.42%,6.86%,respectively. Totally 47 batches of 138 batches were qualified in all indexes. It is suggested that the quality grade of the premature F. suspense can be divided into three grades :in first grade of F. suspense ,the contents of volatile oil ,forsythin, forsythoside A , ethanol-soluble extract and moisture were ≥2.40%,≥0.59%,≥8.34%,≥38.66% and ≤4.99%,respectively;in second grade of F. suspense ,the contents of above indicators were ≥2.26%,≥0.41%,≥7.47%,≥32.58% and ≤5.33%,respectively;in third grade of F. suspense ,the contents of above indicators were ≥2.15%,≥0.32%,≥4.60%,≥31.52% and≤7.23%,respectively.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To apply reference drug in the fingerprint study of Niuhuang qingwei pills, and perform primary evaluation of the quality grade of the samples. METHODS: Ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) separation was performed on an AQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column with gradient elution using acetonitrile (containing 0.5% formic acid)-0.5% formic acid at a flow rate of 0.2 mL•min-1. The injection volume was 2 μL and the column temperature was maintained at 40 ℃. The detection wavelength was set at 254 nm. By comparing with reference substances and the reference herbal materials, characteristic peaks and their ascriptions were investigated. Using Niuhuang qingwei pills reference drug as the accompanying physical control, the similarities of the fingerprints of 49 batches of samples from 18 manufacturers were calculated, and the quality grades were evaluated. RESULTS: The similarities of all samples fell within the range of 0.76-0.98. The similarities of 49 samples were above 0.75 and met the second-grade limit. The similarity of 24 samples were above 0.90 and met the first-grade limit. CONCLUSION: The method is simple, accurate and rapid. It can be used for the quality control and grade evaluation of Niuhuang qingwei pills, which provides reference for the quality grade research of Chinese patent medicines.

ABSTRACT

A rapid and accurate method for determination of astragaloside Ⅳ was established, which was further applied to determine the contents of astragaloside Ⅳ in 87 batches of different origin and different grade of Astragali Radix. The ROC curve was used to analyze the contents of astragaloside Ⅳ in different origin. Simultaneous contents of astragaloside Ⅳ in different grade were compared with chemometrics. HPLC-ELSD method was used to determine the contents of astragaloside Ⅳ. A Vensil MP C18 column( 4. 6 mm×250 mm,5 μm) was used with acetonitrile-water( 32 ∶68) as the mobile phase at a flow rateof 1 m L·min-1. The column temperature was 25 ℃ with ELSD parameters as follows: gas flow rate was 2. 5 L·min-1,the drift tube heating temperature was set to 105 ℃,and the gain value was 4. 0. The optimized method avoided the problem that the consumable quality unstable and the recovery rate was not high. The contents determined by the optimized method were higher than the pharmacopoeia method, with less time and high recovery rate. The ROC curve analysis showed that there was no significant difference of contents of astragaloside Ⅳ between the top grade of Shanxi wild-simulated Astragali Radix top and the first grade of Gansu cultivated Astragali Radix. The contents of astragaloside Ⅳ in the second, third and fourth grade of Shanxi wild-simulated Astragali Radix was significantly higher than those of produced from Gansu. There was a significant negative correlation between the contents of astragaloside Ⅳ and grade in Shanxi Astragali Radix. While there was no correlation for Gansu Astragali Radix. This study provided the basis for the quality grade standard of Astragali Radix.

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the effects of LactoPlanta(R) (Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum), 2.0 x 10(9) colony forming units (CFU)/kg) on reduction of noxious gas emission in pig houses as well as improvement of carcass weight and quality in finishing pigs. A total of 850 finishing pigs were assigned to four treatment groups: control (CON, basal diet) (n=190), LP-0.1, 0.1% LactoPlanta(R) (n=210), LP-0.2, 0.2% LactoPlanta(R) (n=230), and LP-0.4, 0.4% LactoPlanta(R) (n=220). Ammonia and hydrogen sulfide concentrations were significantly reduced in all treatment groups compared to CON. Mercaptan contents and carcass weights of LP-0.2 and LP-0.4 were significantly decreased compared to CON, whereas there were no significant differences between LP-0.1 and CON. Carcass weight of LP-0.1 was slightly higher than that of CON, but there was no significant difference. However, carcass weights of LP-0.2 and LP-0.4 were significantly higher than that of CON (P<0.05). The prevalence of grade A carcasses in groups administered with L. plantarum (46.7~63.3%) was higher than that in CON (43.3%) and increased in a dose-dependent manner. Based on the results of this study, L. plantarum could be an effective candidate to reduce noxious gas emissions in finishing pig houses as well as improve carcass weight and quality in finishing pigs.

ABSTRACT

This study surveyed the prevalence of traumatic reticular diseases (TRD) of slaughter cattle in Korea, the typology of the causative foreign bodies and the effects on beef quality and carcass weight. The overall prevalence of TRD in 3,121 slaughter cattle was 5.5%. However, the prevalence was significantly higher in Korea indigenous cattle Hanwoo (5.8%, p < 0.05) and female cattle (20.75%, p < 0.001). The prevalence significantly increased in aged cattle (p < 0.001). Major lesions related to foreign bodies were reticulitis (96%) and peritonitis (86%). Most causative foreign bodies were made of iron including nails, wires, steel rods, screw nails, and syringe needles. Cattle affected with TRD produced significantly lower grade quality of beef compared to normal cattle (p < 0.0001), but TRD did not affect carcass weight. The data will be useful in the management of TRD, with the aim of increasing beef productivity in Korea.
